A Message From the That’s Believable Guy

The holidays are approaching, kind of like a vampire clown emerging from a cloud of mist with a horde of zombie squirrels! Well, it just so happens that I wrote a book featuring a vampire clown who emerges from a cloud of mist with a horde of zombie squirrels, and it’s called The Monstrous Adventures of Mummy Man and Waffles. It’s the story of two kids who accidentally bring a bunch of old monster movie props to life. Now they must team up with the reanimated, knuckle-headed Mummy Man (and his pet turtle, Frank) to stop an all-out creature invasion.

Written by me (Steve Behling) and illustrated by Robb Mommaerts, Mummy Man is book 1 in a new middle-grade series — yes, it’s a kids’ book, and if you like That’s Believable, then I think you’d enjoy Mummy Man, too.

I’m excited to tell you that book 2 comes out next year. And I would love nothing more than to write a book 3, 4, and on and on. But the only way that will happen is if enough people read book 1. Ok here’s the deal people. It’s the holiday season. Holiday season=gifts. Specifically gifts for kids. How about we not buy Disney toys? Because here’s the thing… Disney has donated $2 million dollars to Israel… an apartheid state that is currently committing genocide on a population that is 50% children. The company that profits off of children’s happiness (and my own when I was younger) is actively supporting the mass murder of thousands of kids. A state that has hundreds of children as prisoners (they’re more like hostages really) and systematically tortures them both physically and mentally. The Walt Disney Company is condoning this with their donations. So. This holiday season let’s maybe not buy kids gifts from Disney? And this also includes Disney+ subscriptions. Look I was just as excited to watch the Percy Jackson series as the next fan. But given Disney and Rick’s response to the current and ongoing genocide I’ve decided to not give my monetary support. I will watch the show in one way or another…. Maybe in 10 years when children aren’t being killed by the thousands, maybe when it comes out through some other means. But by supporting a company that supports the murder of innocent men, women, and children.

I bought this for my nephew "from" the new baby and it was a MASSIVE hit. He loves a shaking toy and I love the absurdity of a 10-month-old carrying a dumbbell, but he literally won't put it down. We Zoomed with my family a few days ago to open presents and I was laughing to tears at it. My brother keeps texting me killer photos of him—picture all the "don't wait till January 1st!!!" #fitfluencer #fitspo memes you've seen, except with a baby who can't quite walk yet.

In conclusion, buy your baby or a baby you love a rattling dumbbell.

PS I'm also dying over this Fisher Price set with the same idea in mind. THE SHAKER BOTTLE!!!! This is how you know millennials are deep into their parenthood eras (well, some of them)—that something like this would get national traction.

P.P.S. No one should feel obligated to give gifts but things like this are why I love shopping for gifts. I try to always respect what people want and (perhaps more importantly) whether they don't want "stuff," but it does give me joy to find them something that they will appreciate. That's why I bought gifts for a baby that won't even be able to open her own on Xmas. She will look cute next to them though!
